Teen basketball legend, Lauren Hill was honored with the Best Moment award at the 2015 ESPYs. Hill, who suffered from an inoperable pediatric brain tumor, died on April 10, 2015 at the age of 19, but not before achieving a lifelong dream of playing collegiate basketball.
Accepting the award on Lauren’s behalf were her parents who urged people to make every moment count, just like Lauren. That, they said, would be the best tribute to her spirit.
Lauren Hill’s Story
The Division III women’s basketball player just wanted to play one game in college. She ended up playing in four games and made five layups.
The community support was overwhelming. In fact, in her first game, the stadium sold out and LeBron James sent her gifts and tweeted how much of an inspiration she was. Lauren went on to win many awards and accolades for her courage, persistence and positive attitude.
Lauren Hill’s lasting impact in her fight against brain cancer was truly an inspiration and has resulted in over $2.5 million raised for cancer research. To help continue Lauren’s fight against brain cancer, you can donate here.
